USNAPCGC
UPDATES
June 10th, 2008 Update
Wow, what an incredible day! At last count, we
had over 100 people in attendance at this years
Hail & Farewell held in Salisbury, NC. Not even
the scorching heat could hold back the excited
new NAPster, Plebes, Mids and families from
joining us as we celebrated the arrival of the
class of 2012 and the departure of our fine
young Ensigns & 2nd Lieutenant.
We welcomed 21 new families to our club. I
believe that is a new club record! It was so
exciting to talk to our newest members and
relive the elation of what they are about to
undertake. Many of their questions were once
ours as we remembered our 1st meetings. This
club was formed to support our Midshipmen and
their families. We hope that everyone feels free
to reach out to anyone associated with the
USNAPCGC, especially the board members.
It has been amazing to watch Nick, DyAnna,
Stefanie and Stephen grow into the fine young
adults that they are today. Hearing their
stories, sharing in their parents joy as each
year passed made Saturday exceptional. For the
past 4 years we got to share in their
experiences and get a glimpse of what a
Midshipman's life is like. As new members
coming into the club, we were amazed at their
fortitude, poise and confidence. As established
members we are in awe of what they have
accomplished.
I’d like to remind everyone of our next meeting,
August 2nd is the Pre-Plebe Parent Weekend
Picnic. The Siragusa's have generously
volunteered their home. The club will provide
the hamburgers and hotdogs, and we ask all
members to bring 1 side dish and drinks. Check
www.usnapcgc.org for any and all club updates.
Also, please hurry and purchase your tickets at
www.navysports.com for the Pittsburgh vs.
Navy football game & parking pass. More
information will be forthcoming on this club
tradition soon!
Thank you and remember-Good luck happens when
preparedness meets opportunity.

May 15th, 2008 Update
Dear USNAPCGC Family,
I wanted to take a moment and congratulate the
largest plebe class from our USNAPCGC family!
You all are officially Plebes-No-More and
Plebe-No-More Families. Well done on the
Herndon climb and what a special tribute paid to
a fallen classmate. I'm sure this gesture of
placing her cover on Herndon will be of great
comfort to her family. Also, congratulations to
all the Firsties and their families as the
commissioning week activities begin. Mike and I
are so excited we can hardly stand it, but will
not feel totally relieved until we see that
diploma in Nick's hand.
Upcoming reminders to everyone of the Hail &
Farewell on June 7 at 11. See the website for
more details.
Also, if you haven't sent your updates of your
mid and some pictures to Judy Moore, please get
those in by the end of May deadline. I'm sure
Firstie families are waiting till after
commissioning. These stories make great
additions to our Yard Dog Tales. Please help
Judy and get these to her soon.
Again - congratulations!

Also in the News:
The Horne family was quoted in the
Annapolis paper concerning Herndon.
I enjoyed seeing Herndon for the
first time. Also proud to see
Chris's company (my son) #20 got the
award for sea trials and they were
color company. (I don't know if I
said that right). It was a beautiful
day and it was painful to watch but
as some friends of mine say " Mid's
know how to make anything fun."
Chris was limping and tired when I
saw him the night before Herndon. He
failed to tell me they would get the
award for sea trials. I think he
wanted to surprise me. He did.
Thanks on the heads up on the
Charlotte observer. I just found a
copy on my doorstep. Pam Ress
Ryan Moore and Andrew Mauney were also
involved in Sea Trials. They were on
the paintball field as part of
the Sea Trials testing of the
Plebe's. They were attacking and
ambushing the plebe companies as
they tried to get their respective C.O.'s to the end of the paintball
field with out being shot. Only 5
companies made it through
successfully. Ryan and Andrew had
approximately 150 "kills" each.

April 13th, 2008 Update
Dear USNAPCGC Family,
It was so good to see a lot of you last night at
the Arroyo's home, thanks Consuelo and
Daniel. Among those in attendance were four
very excited '08 parents, only 39 days and 1
wake up to go - not that I'm counting or
anything! We even had a suprise visit from a
'07 graduate, Sarah Bergman who is getting ready
to deploy on a CG - guided missile cruiser.
From all the reports from parents, it sounds as
if our mids have very exciting summers in store.
Our next meeting will be held Saturday, June 7
at 12:00 noon at East Rowan High School and it
will be our annual Hail and Farewell meeting.
We hope to see as many of you in attendance as
possible. The meat will be provided by the club
and all members are asked to bring side dishes
and drinks. At this point we will be welcoming
7 new plebe families and we will need to bring
enough food for our guests since we do not ask
them to bring anything. Our own Jack Ahart
(Jenny '06) will be speaking to us briefly and I
know a lot of you will be anxious to hear from
him. We will also have a Q & A time with our
newly commissioned '08 Ensign/2nd Lieutenants
after having an introduction of our new plebes
and their families. So please make every effort
possible to attend.
At the Hail and Farewell we will be passing out
the Yard Dog Tales, which all of you have
enjoyed in the past. Judy Moore will be
undertaking this project and she has done a
wonderful job in the past, but she needs your
help! ALL parents of current and
graduated midshipman need to send in a picture
or two with a 1 or 2 paragraph updating the club
on your mid/graduate. This update will be
included in the Yard Dog Tales and it is a great
way for us to be able to keep up with all of the
mids. Please get these items to her by May 31
so she will have time to get them published.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
Finally, Bridget Bordino will be your new
president and will be officially starting her
duties after Hail and Farewell. She will be
calling on many of you to volunteer in the near
future. Please help whenever you can, because
this club is only as viable as its members make
it. As she so eloquently said last night this
club can't survive with only one or two people
carrying the load, it takes everybody.
Thanks for all you do and we'll see you on June
7th!

March 31st, 2008 Update
Hello USNAPCGC Family!
Just wanted to drop a line and remind everyone
of our upcoming meeting on April 12th at 4:00
pm. We will be meeting at Daniel and
Consuelo Arroyo's home and Scott already has the
directions posted on our website
www.usnapcgc.org, "thanks" Scott! We really
need to have a good showing, because it will
take all of us to make Hail and Farewell as
successful as it has been in the past.
Linda, Suzanne, Scott, Judy, and Debi are
already preparing for the new group of plebes.
I think we would all agree that this event was
very important as our sons and daughters
prepared to begin their USNA journey. As
Nick's, Stefanie's, Austin's, DyAnna's and
Stephen's USNA journey draws to a close, I'm
reminded of just how important this club has
been to me through these four years. Even
as were preparing for commissioning, every
detail and piece of advice has been shared with
us through members of this club, "thanks" to all
of you for your support!
Please bring a covered dish to share and as
always, drinks of your choice. I look so
forward to seeing you all and fellowshiping with
my Navy family! Please click Reply
and let me know if you are planning on coming
and as always if you realize last minute you can
be there, come join the fun!
Keeping in touch...
Cindy
